How to maintain very good tires to last longer

We all want the tires to last longer. Even quality tires require regular maintenance, so to maintain performance. This increases not only vehicle safety but also its performance, which will allow you to save money. Allotted monthly minutes and protect your investment with 4 golden rules.

1. Monthly pressure check
Did you know that pressure decreases by about 1 psi per month? Approximately two thirds of European drivers running tires at too low a pressure. Incorrectly inflated tires not only wear out faster but also affects vehicle performance, braking capacity, maneuverability and safety. Fuel consumption is also affected: a tire with a pressure 20% lower than the recommended mileage decreases by 20%. At the same time, too much pressure in the tires cause premature aging and uneven tire wear. Check the pressure monthly (including the spare tire) and before long trips. Preferably, check pressure when tires are cold. If you run in the last two hours or if you run slowly on a greater distance, add the recommended pressure 0.3 bar. Pressure correct values can be found in the user manual.

2. Rotate and balance wheels
One way to extend the life of the tire is rotating them regularly every 10,000 to 12,000 km, thus tires will wear evenly, which means they will last longer. When changing wheels between them, ask them and balance specialist, so as to eliminate vibrations. This way you will protect the wheel bearings and suspension and will prevent tire wear. As a tire lasts longer, much less cost.

3. Check wear
Running tires with too little depth profile is not only illegal but it certainly compromise and away, increases the risk of aquaplaning, reduced grip and handling. Tires must be replaced when the depth is 1.6 mm profile. It is important to note that the minimum legal tread depth is 1.6 mm - this limit is valid only for summer tires or general use. Given that the roadway is covered with snow or ice, in some European countries the legal minimum tread depth is 3 or 4 mm.
Depth profile can be easily checked with a caliper depth, which can be purchased from a specialist tire or with depth indicator which accompany most new tires. Check periodically depth profile at different points of the tire and if in doubt, contact a professional.

4. Wheel alignment and reduce costs
When you go through a hole or accidentally hit the curb wheel alignment is affected. This can lead to rapid and irregular tire wear, affecting vehicle handling and safety. If you call the authorized service to check the wheel alignment periodically, you ensure the growth and life of tires will improve vehicle handling.

These are awesome tips Eliot! After a few different experiences the only tires that I will use are Vredestein tires. They are absolutely the best, I never have problems with them and they are super reliable. Thank you for sharing this with us!
