Volkswagen hybrid - Volkswagen promises new plug-in hybrid in 2013

Broadly speaking, the automotive technology has remained virtually unchanged over nearly a century. Engines of four, six, eight cylinders, atmospheric or turbo-powered, diesel-or oil. The same pattern has been repeated, with exceptions, with each new model introduced to the market. But things are changing and should not surprise anyone. In fact, I dare say that in the last 3-5 years, technology has evolved far more than in the past 50-60 years.

The latest brand to jump on the bandwagon of advanced technologies has been Volkswagen. And I am not referring to yet another futuristic concept unworkable, no. I mean hybrid "plug", also known as plug-in hybrids or extended range hybrid, models that have gradually been introduced in the market thanks to proposals such as the Fisker Karma, the Opel Ampera and the Volt . In this sense, the German automaker, with the help of CEO Martin Winterkorn, said that facing the 2013/14 Volkswagen models will feature several "important" with this technology.

This is undoubtedly one of the solutions to the industry mark in coming years, since the hybrid "plug" combine the best of both worlds by a small combustion engine can provide vehicles similar to autonomy "conventional" while all-electric mode can go the distance about 80 kilometers. Interestingly, one of the few details Winterkorn has been commented that the future will offer mechanical models of the brand and have no limitations regarding the maximum speed or towing capacity.

For now, however, the Volkswagen Group has not specified which models will be responsible for bringing technology to plug-in hybrid production models of the German manufacturer. In this sense, it would be unreasonable to think of the Volkswagen Golf TwinDrive Plug-in Hybrid and the Audi A5 and-Tron Plug-in Hybrid Prototype as possible candidates, given that so far, are the only ones that have been presented so more or less official. Not to count the Giugiaro Tex presented at the last Geneva Motor Show. It will be interesting to see which way the paths ...
